Perugia worth a visit!!

Yesterday Gaia and I (Amina) went to Perugia for business. It was the first time there for both. Our review? What a wonderful town! The historic center is easily reacheable by "minimetrò" and the Piazza IV Novembre with its Fontana Maggiore is really amazing. Last but not least there are lots of beautiful stores for shopping.

OLIVE HARVEST 2010 AT BORGO GRONDAIE

First day!
See Gaia, Roberto (her uncle and one of the owners of Borgo Grondaie which we have already mentioned in this Post ) and Giovanni (her father and brother of Roberto) at work :-)

Pattaro: our favourite carpenter!

If you have already been at Borgo Grondaie I'm sure you recognize the furniture of the pictures in this post. They are part of the furniture of our Reception and always win admiration from our guests.

Usually the questions of our guests are 'what was that before?' and 'who made that?'

Well, these such as the furniture of all our rooms and apartments were made by a local wood craftsmanship that produces custom furniture also through the restoration of old things.

When they started to work they were two members, Nardi & Pattaro. Currently Nardi decided to retire while Pattaro continues his activities and he still collaborate with Borgo Grondaie.

In a few days, September 25 & 26, there will be the inauguration of a new laboratory and showroom in Monteriggioni, Località Badesse, under the name Falegnameria Artistica and from October 1^st it will be possible to buy his items online at the following site.

What was that?

It was a furniture of a pharmacy!

Although 2010 has already begun, Gaia and I are reviewing the past year to enable us to understand whether our opinions of Borgo Grondaie’s strong points, are the same opinions as the people who choose to stay with us.

We have always focussed our attention on a few goals:

- a professional staff, who are willing to share their knowledge of our local region with guests

- a scrupulous attention to the cleaning of rooms and public places. An example we can offer is the impeccable cleaning of the pool, aided through the research of hygienic products which have low impact on the environment

- rooms and apartments with comfortable and functional furniture with a Tuscan style

- daily care to all green spaces around Borgo Grondaie in order to guarantee our guests lovely breaks in the open air, enjoying a glass of wine at our salt water pool or reading a book sitting down under an oak shade

The criticisms are fine but please try also to undestand the culture of the country you are visiting and the people you're going to meet...

My reality, to be a Siennese, obliges me to explain some things to who was born and lived far from the borders of Siena.

The life that we live in Borgo Grondaie is certainly very provincial but also very genuine. One day a guest told me that the furnitures are too rustic and I answered that this is the Tuscan style or at least about Tuscany that I have ever known. Not a reality made of luxury and ostentatious wealth but the closer one to last century peasants' reality.

KING OF CLUBS

When he sees a tree or a branch Roberto, one of the owners of Borgo Grondaie, thinks immediately to a head of a flier which can resemble it and manages to impress in the wood bird shapes in positions more and more curious. He does not want to be called an artist, but would you be able to extract from walking wood sticks so imaginative and colorful figures? Pass your judgement....

New activity at the Borgo

Starting from August 2008 at Borgo Grondaie it will be possible to organise Nordic Walking courses and excursions for experts.
Classes can be individual or small group. It will be an opportunity to do excellent physical activity and explore the beautiful countryside of Siena.

I miss Americans

The 2008 will not be remembered for the many American tourists arrived in the beautiful country. The expensive euro and the Americans mortgage loans crisis keep our friends afar.
I am very sorry because I love Americans. They enjoy life and, unlike what many think, they are generally respectful of the traditions of the countries they visit. They are always looking for news, places to visit, food and wine to taste. And this applies not only to those who have large means, in different ways all are seeking the total leisure experience.
In a global world, American tourists who come in Tuscany are looking for an experience of life, an experience not stereotyped.

Happy Hour at the Borgo

We like to drink… indeed we like to drink good.

As a famous motto says: "life is too short to drink bad wine……!

Antonio is a wine lover. He is not a sommelier, he didn’t join any special courses, simply he loves wine.

There was the place to locate the cellar, a room made of bricks that was used in the last century as a cistern for collecting rainwater to use during the drought months.

A huge pasta pot

When we started building up the pool in 2002 we immediately wondered what could make it more attractive to customers. Among the various solutions the pool-builder proposed us to establish a pool of saltwater. The idea sounds great!! We hoped to avoid having to build a pipeline from Siena to the sea and that it didn’t charge too much on our budget.
